Santa Cruz Standard

City of Santa Cruz issued the following announcement on Dec. 17.

Most City offices will be closed over the holidays.  Except for public safety and other essential services, City offices will be closed from:

 Monday, December 21, 2020–Friday, January 1, 2021

 City offices will reopen on Monday, January 4, 2021.

Refuse and recycling collection services will operate as usual, even on the holidays, for customers inside City limits whose refuse service is provided by Santa Cruz Municipal Utilities.  Holiday trees will be picked up from January 1–14, 2021 on the regular collection day. The following notes depict Closure Schedules for various City facilities in exception to the above schedule:

• Dimeo Lane Resource Recovery Facility (landfill and recycling center)

  The facility will be closed as follows:

• Thursday, December 24, 2020 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
• Friday, December 25, 2020 all day.
• Thursday, December 31, 2020 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
• Friday, January 1, 2021 all day.

 Otherwise, it will be open normal hours, which are 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., Monday–Saturday.  The facility is closed on Sundays.

 Fire (Emergency 9-1-1 services are not affected by the closure.)

• Administration Office:  Will be closed from Friday, December 18, 2020–Friday, January 1, 2021.  The lobby will reopen on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.
• Fire Inspections and Plan Checks:  During the closure, inspections and plan checking will not be done.

Library

All branches of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries will be closed Thursday, December 24, 2020–Saturday, January 2, 2021.

Parks and Recreation

• George Washington Grove and Harvey West Ball Fields and DeLaveaga Ball Fields:  Closed Tuesday, December 1, 2020–Monday, March 1, 2021.
• Locked park areas and restrooms, including the Ken Wormhoudt Skate Park and the Bicycle Trip Bike Park, but excluding Lighthouse Point parking lot:  Closed Friday, December 25, 2020.
• DeLaveaga Golf Course:  Closed ONLY Friday, December 25, 2020.
• DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course Parking Lot:  Open Friday, December 25, 2020.
• Teen Center:  Closed.
• Louden Nelson Community Center:  Closed.
• Civic Auditorium:  Closed.
• Harvey West Pool:  Closed through mid-March 2021.
• Facility or Tree Emergencies:  Dial 9-1-1.
• Administration Office:  Will be closed Monday, December 21, 2020–Sunday, January 3, 2021.

Planning and Community Development

Will be closed beginning Friday, December 18, 2020–Monday, January 4, 2021.  Telephone service will be available periodically throughout the closure for all services.  For life-safety emergencies, dial 9-1-1.  Payments, Planning Application, and Permit Submittal services will resume on Monday, January 4, 2021.  Please shelter-in-place and do not drop off new submittals during the holiday closure.

• Building Inspections:  During the closure, limited inspections are available on the following dates by calling Senior Building Inspector Larry Riordan at (831) 420-5122 provided the request is made prior to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2020.

     o  Monday, December 21, 2020 and Tuesday, December 22, 2020

     o  Tuesday, December 29, 2020 and Wednesday, December 30, 2020

• Building Permit Plan Review:  By appointment ONLY during the holiday closure.  You may contact Supervising Plans Examiner John Gervasoni at (831) 420-5119 or Senior Plans Examiner John McLucas, P.E., S.E at (831) 420-5413.
• Current Planning:  Telephone service, voicemails, and E-mails will be monitored periodically.  Please call (831) 420-5416 or E-mail planningcounter@cityofsantacruz.com .
• Code Compliance and Rental Services:  Telephone service, voicemails, and E-mails will be monitored periodically.  Please call (831) 420-5110 or E-mail code@cityofsantacruz.com .

Police (Emergency 9-1-1 services are not affected by the closure.)

• Public Lobby:  The lobby is currently closed.  For records requests, vehicle releases, or other requests, please call (831) 420-5870 or use the callbox outside the Police Department and dial #2 for Records. 
• Property Release:  During the holiday closure (Thursday, December 24, 2020–Monday, January 4, 2020), property will be available by appointment ONLY by calling (831) 420-5900.

Public Works

• Inspections: The Public Works office/public counter will be closed; however, for field inspections or sewer repair emergencies, please call (831) 420-5175.Inspections will require a 24-hour notice. The office will reopen on Monday, January 4, 2020 at 7:00 a.m.
• Administration Office: Will be closed. If you need assistance with sewer, flood control, or other extreme hazards, please call 9-1-1. If it is not an emergency, please call the Santa Cruz Police Department’s Non-Emergency Number at (831) 471-1131. The office will reopen on Monday, January 4, 2020 at 7:00 a.m.
• Parking Office: Will be closed and will reopen Monday, January 4, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.

Santa Cruz Municipal Utilities (SCMU)

• Customer Service:  The Customer Service Office lobby is closed.  Customer Service will be open for business over the phone or online (excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day).  In the event of a water emergency during the closure, dial (831) 420-5220 and your call will be directed to water personnel.  For a sewer or stormwater emergency, dial 9-1-1.  A drop box for SCMU check payments is located outside the office at 212 Locust Street.
• Water Administration, Engineering, and Conservation:  The public counters are closed.  Engineering and Conservation will be returning phone messages during the closure.
