FOIA Request to University of California, Santa Cruz Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Santa Cruz Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of California, Santa Cruz. This request seeks detailed information about current students who are Chinese Nationals.
Our inquiry includes several specific requests:
1. We are seeking documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If such information is protected, we request the total number of these students along with a departmental breakdown.
2. We have asked for records detailing any scholarships received by these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.
3. Additionally, we seek clarification on scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council. If this information overlaps with our second request, we ask for identification of relevant scholarships.
4. Finally, we request any university policies or procedures regarding how they monitor students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.
This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating governmental agencies through transparency laws.
