During the first quarter of 2026, Pacific Coast Manor ranked as the third largest nursing home in Santa Cruz County, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reports.
According to data, the facility offered 99 beds—five below the county average for that period—and supported an average of 97.8 residents per day.
The CMS awarded Pacific Coast Manor a 5 out of 5 overall rating, surpassing the 3.2 state average for California nursing homes.
Santa Cruz Post Acute led as the largest nursing home in the county for the quarter, providing 149 beds. Redwood Grove Post Acute ranked second, with 144 beds.
As of Q1 2026, Pacific Coast Manor had not incurred any fines or penalties.
There were seven for-profit nursing homes operating in Santa Cruz County, California, during this period.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s older population is rising as younger age groups shrink. Between 2020 and 2024, the American population age 65 and up rose by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the last century, the U.S. older adult population has expanded significantly, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million as of 2024.
A 2021 report indicates nearly half of adults 65 and older—about 28 million—likely require long-term services and supports. The same study suggests over one-third may need nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
