South El Monte city had a population of 20,791 people in 2020, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the Santa Cruz Standard.

The median age was 35, with 49.2 percent of the total population being female and 50.8 percent male.

The state's total population in 2020 was 39,346,023.
